For many years, NWBA has served churches by acting as a trust body. This gives us a unique relationship with many local congregations and allows us
to combine various legal concerns and responsibilities with the work we do in supporting mission and ministry. However, with increasing
legislation and limited resources, it is difficult to maintain the level of expertise locally that is required to fulfil this role as effectively
as we would like. At the same time, many of those specialist skills are available to us through the excellent team at Baptist House in Didcot, and
we are grateful already for the work they do in supporting us.
However, we have increasingly come to recognise that it makes sense to provide this service to churches directly and for this reason after careful
consideration and some years of consultation with other Baptist Associations, NWBA trustees have decided to invite our churches to appoint the
Baptist Union Corporation to act as their custodian trustees.
We believe that this will provide to churches a better level of service, while also releasing the NWBA staff team to work with churches om more
strategic and pastoral matters. We have recently written to church secretaries explaining the proposed changes and outlining what churches need to do.
